Oct 23, 2017 - Foxconn is among the first manufacturers to implement blockchain technology in its supply chain. This project looks at Chained Finance, which consists of a procurement market and the handling of logistics, accounting, inventory, finance, and sales functions. Participants’ visibility into orders and the movement of assets enables them to provide trade finance and short-term loans to tier 2 and tier 3 suppliers as needed and at better rates than the traditional financial system.

The Innovation Dilemma of Distributed Ledger Technology
File Type: Document
https://www.blockchainresearchinstitute.org/project/the-innovation-dilemma-of-distributed-ledger-technology/
Feb 17, 2022 - The value of blockchain innovation comes from outward-looking strategies that benefit from broad collaboration across an ecosystem, especially around standards. But the legacy systems and processes of the automotive industry tend to favor incremental change over bold transformation. Without reliable estimates of eventual returns, many automakers have hesitated to invest in open experimentation. This new paper provides a framework for understanding the potential of distributed ledger technologies in mobility and transportation. It presents two dozen of most important blockchain use cases for automotive in three categories—enterprise operatio...

Reinventing Healthcare on the Blockchain
File Type: Document, Infographic, Video
https://www.blockchainresearchinstitute.org/project/reinventing-healthcare-on-the-blockchain/
Jan 12, 2018 - The healthcare systems of many countries work for neither the medical professionals nor the patients they serve. It is the only industry where innovation drives costs up. The problem ultimately resides in industrial-age thinking about healthcare delivery, where intermediaries hoard data, assume patient ignorance, and exclude anyone without insurance. This project flips the model: patients co-create and own their data, have full access to it, and can monetize it on the blockchain.

Sep 28, 2017 - A new phenomenon—initial coin offerings—enabled through blockchain technology is upending basic tenets of twentieth-century capitalism. This project frames the opportunity in terms of addressing the tragedy of the commons. He studies the development and ramification of the emerging token economy and walks through the landscape of token types. He previews the economic effects of digital scarcity, tokens as powerful incentives, and the legal and policy ramifications for securities law and property rights.
