Introduction to Stablecoins
File Type: Document, Infographic
https://www.blockchainresearchinstitute.org/project/introduction-to-stablecoins/
Jan 21, 2021 - This research project looks at stablecoins, a new category of digital assets with stable prices in decentralized financial systems. It achieves three goals. First, it examines different ways to stabilize the price of a cryptocurrency. Some are backed by assets with stable value such as US dollars or gold, others are stabilized by algorithms, and some combine those two approaches. Second, it surveys the landscape of stablecoins and analyze the top ten stablecoins by market capitalization. Finally, it suggests ways to use stablecoins for protecting the value of a cryptoasset portfolio.
Decentralized Finance Analysis: How to Identify Value Within the Crypto Ecosystem
File Type: Document, Infographic
https://www.blockchainresearchinstitute.org/project/decentralized-finance-analysis/
Feb 14, 2023 - In this project, our research leaders develop a method of formal analysis of the value of decentralized finance (DeFi) initiatives. Inspired by Vitalik Buterin’s writings on the intrinsic worth of projects in the crypto economy—that they must solve legitimate human problems on a macro scale—our researchers mirror the approach of Benjamin Graham and David Dodd in Security Analysis. For several different applications within the DeFi space, they identify the business metrics as well as the financial and social key performance indicators (e.g., staking yield, fees generated) that will help investors distill signals from the noise...
Distributed Artificial Intelligence
File Type: Document, Infographic
https://www.blockchainresearchinstitute.org/project/distributed-artificial-intelligence/
Mar 22, 2019 - The use of artificial intelligence is diffusing, making it one of the broadest technological revolutions ever. Blockchain technology has the unique ability to improve the reliability of AI training data and secure AI implementations through smart contracts and on-chain governance. This project examines AI, the differences among centralized, decentralized, and distributed AI, the utility of autonomous agents, and current scalability and governance challenges.
The Coming Cataclysm
File Type: Document, Infographic
https://www.blockchainresearchinstitute.org/project/the-coming-cataclysm/
Sep 30, 2019 - This research explores the disruptive effects of blockchain technologies on central banking and the financial services industry. Its author discusses Facebook’s proposed cryptocurrency Libra, and how the other FAANG companies—that is, Amazon.com, Apple, Netflix, and Google—might respond with their own digital tokens. He introduces five transformations—cryptoassets, the tokenization of everything, blockchains as state machines, a new model for identity, and the nine forms of decentralized finance. He examines the challenges that incumbents and innovators face during this transition; and he previews the world of financial services in th...
How Blockchain is Transforming the Creative Industries
File Type: Document, Infographic, Video
https://www.blockchainresearchinstitute.org/project/how-blockchain-is-transforming-the-creative-industries/
Nov 10, 2017 - This project examines intellectual property on the blockchain. It identifies the key issues, strategies, and approaches to managing copyright in the creative industries that will enable artists to capitalize on this breakthrough technology, navigate the associated complexities, and disintermediate any party that adds no value.
Financial Derivatives with Blockchain and Smart Contracts
File Type: Document, Infographic
https://www.blockchainresearchinstitute.org/project/financial-derivatives-with-blockchain-and-smart-contracts/
Mar 17, 2020 - This research underscores the importance of financial derivative contracts as use cases for blockchain technology in general and for smart contracts in particular. Blockchain and decentralized apps can increase transparency, automate the movement of collateral, reduce the need for reconciliation, and automate the management of covenants against counterparty default.
