KodakONE: Changing the Still Image Marketplace on the Blockchain
File Type: Document, Infographic
https://www.blockchainresearchinstitute.org/project/kodakone-changing-the-still-image-marketplace-on-the-blockchain/
Jun 18, 2019 - This case details the problems that need to be solved, specifically how photographers can maximize the value of their intellectual property. It explains how the KODAKOne platform works and walks through several use cases. It also discusses such non-technical obstacles as the different copyright laws across jurisdictions, costly legal processes, and different interpretations of legal concepts like as fair use and exhaustion. The case also describes how Kodak might reinvent its brand within the competitive digital image platform ecosystem.
Reclaiming Medication on the Blockchain
File Type: Document, Infographic
https://www.blockchainresearchinstitute.org/project/reclaiming-medication-remedichain/
Mar 31, 2020 - The RemediChain project has emerged as a blockchain-based national database that collects drug waste data and supports the redistribution of safe, unused drugs and the safe destruction of expired or spoiled medication. The platform—a hybrid of Enterprise Ethereum incorporating Hyperledger Besu client and Istanbul Byzantine fault tolerant 2.0 with a proof-of-authority consensus mechanism—checks the quality of donations and tracks their provenance from source to destination, either to patients or to government-approved incinerators. This research explores the opportunities and implementation challenges of such a solution for stakeholders.
Can Blockchain Help with Gun Registries
File Type: Document, Infographic
https://www.blockchainresearchinstitute.org/project/can-blockchain-help-with-gun-registries/
Jun 02, 2020 - Countries with universal background checks and gun registries experience significantly fewer gun-related deaths. As a highly encrypted, tamper-resistant, and decentralized database, distributed ledger technology has the potential to serve as a distributed registry of guns. DLT could allow gun buyers to prove a lack of a criminal record (the equivalent of a background check) without giving up personal information. This survey of the blockchain landscape highlights several start-ups such as VeriTransfer and BitRail that are experimenting with DLT to do for firearms provenance what other blockchain innovators have done with food, cannabis, and p...
New Directions for Government In the Second Era of the Digital Age

https://www.blockchainresearchinstitute.org/project/new-directions-for-government-in-the-second-era-of-the-digital-age/
Feb 09, 2021 - This research project surveys what federal governments can do to exploit the next era of technology across their operations, within their economies and society, and with their allies and global partners. It focuses on the threats and opportunities facing the United States—including China’s increasing dominance in global supply chains and strategic innovation. It also speaks to challenges the new administration faces, and recommends five areas for immediate action: securing digital systems, citizen identities, and personal data; embracing cryptocurrencies and launching a digital dollar; transforming government services and culture; engagin...
Utility Settlement Coin
File Type: Document, Infographic
https://www.blockchainresearchinstitute.org/project/utility-settlement-coin/
May 25, 2018 - The utility settlement coin (USC) consortium plans to develop what we believe banks will welcome. This case study describes how the USC, launched by UBS and Clearmatics, will use decentralized blockchain technology to confirm financial agreements that are verifiable without the wastefulness of proof of work. Financial institutions could conduct business more safely because of real-time settlement, smart contracts, and enhanced risk management procedures using this new digital version of fiat currencies.

Dec 07, 2018 - In collaboration with Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Innovation, Science, and Economic Development Canada, researcher Alan Majer of Good Robot presents the promise and potential of blockchain applied to the safety and sustainability of Canada’s food supply. He includes in-depth interviews of Emma Weston, CEO of AgriDigital, Padraig Brennan of Bord Bia, and leaders at Agri Traçabilité Québec and BLOCKstrain. Ultimately, he describes a working model of the holistic approach that other government agencies could be taking to test blockchain solutions to pressing national problems that require public-private collaboration.
