Release Date: July 18, 2019

Abstract:

This research looks at how blockchain technology enables parties who don’t know each other to conduct business, increasingly independent of traditional intermediaries. It explains the new elements of strategy—shared ledgers, smart contracts, and tokenized assets—and develops the concept of strategic liquidity, the degree to which an enterprise can maneuver in a competitive environment and dynamically reallocate internal resources. Finally, it frames the implementation challenges as opportunities to participate. After reading this work, enterprise strategists will have some blockchain-based ideas for bridging the gap between strategy design and delivery, especially in times of turbulence. More important, they will have some immediate actions to take.
